Questions and answers

Who actually does the work when I use Toldformed Pest Control?
Not us. Toldformed Pest Control is a referral service. You send a request, and we connect you with an independent local provider in our network. That provider visits your home, gives you a written quote and does the treatment. Who does what matters, so here it is plainly: we make the introduction, and the provider handles the job and its terms.
Can I get rid of mice or ants myself with store products?
Sometimes, for a small and recent problem. A few traps or ant baits can help. But store products often miss the reason pests came in. Mice slip through tiny gaps. Ants may have a nest hidden in a wall. If you keep seeing signs after a week or two, it is wise to ask a provider. Waiting can let damage grow quietly in the walls, which can affect your home's value later.
Is it safe to have pest treatment around kids and pets?
It can be, when the provider follows the product label and plans the visit well. Ask which products they use, where they apply them and how long you should keep children and pets away. A good provider answers these questions in plain words. Tell them about every pet in the house, including fish and birds. Do not be shy about asking. Your comfort matters.
Will my homeowners insurance pay for pest or wildlife damage?
Often it does not, because many policies treat pests like termites and rodents as a maintenance issue. Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as a raccoon tearing through a roof during a storm. Check your policy or ask your agent. Providers can often help document damage for a claim, such as with notes and photos, but they cannot promise any outcome.
How much does pest control usually cost?
It varies a lot by job. In the U.S., a one-time general treatment often runs about $100 to $300. Termite work and wildlife removal usually cost more, sometimes into the thousands for larger homes. Size, pest type and how bad it is all matter. Always ask for a written quote so you know what is included before you agree.
How do I know if it is mice, rats or something bigger?
Look at the clues. Small droppings and gnawed food boxes point to mice. Larger droppings and greasy marks along walls point to rats. Scratching in the attic at dusk may mean squirrels or raccoons. Take a few photos and note where and when you notice it. This helps the provider decide what to bring on the first visit.
Do I need to leave my house during treatment?
Usually not for a standard indoor or outdoor visit. Some treatments, like certain termite or bed bug methods, may ask you to step out for a while. The provider will tell you before they start. Ask in advance so you can plan for kids, pets and medications. Clear instructions up front make the day much easier.
What should I do while I wait for a provider?
Take a breath. Then do a few simple things. Seal food in tight containers, wipe up crumbs and fix any dripping water. Do not seal off an animal inside a wall or attic. Avoid heavy spraying, which can scatter pests. Jot down what you see and where. Then send a request, and a provider can take it from there.
